Wuthering Waves is the newest Action RPG and Gacha game to take the world by storm, reaching over 20 million preregistered accounts worldwide before its release. With its in-depth story and immersive gameplay, we’re sure you’ll love Wuthering Waves if you’re a fan of a good combat challenge!

Given the many aspects of this game’s world-building and varied quests, you may spend your first few hours playing Wuthering Waves in many ways. But if you’re wondering about the do’s, don’ts, and best things to do as you start your journey, here are our tips!

Open up the map as soon as possible

Opening up all Resonance Nexus and Resonance Beacons will help you further along your gameplay. The upcoming Story Quests and Side Quests may all start at Jinzhou, but plenty of its chapters may occur at various points along the map.

Teleport Wuthering Waves

Moreover, exploring SOL3 is also the best way to open up side quests and rake up Astrites with chests and fighting Echoes for your Data Bank level!

Make the most out of Story Quests

We know that finishing story quests may seem tedious, but trust us when we say that you wouldn’t want to skip every chance to gain the materials and Union XP gained from these quests. Above all other ways of gaining Union XP, the Story Quests grant the most (some give up to 2000 XP per quest string).

If you’re playing Wuthering Waves for the combat and you’re not exactly a lore fan, you can skip the long dialogues in some parts of the Story Quests. But what’s important is to gain enough XP to upgrade your SOL3 Phase level to unlock higher tier Echoes (the key to making your characters stronger!).

Your Data Bank level is as important as your Union Level

Your Data Bank level determines the drop probabilities of the Echoes you get. This means the higher your Data Bank is, the better stats and rarity you get from your Echoes (which also snowballs into gaining more Data Bank EXP!)

Data Bank Level

Unlike the Union XP awarded by multiple in-game content, from clearing bosses and Forgery Challenges to accomplishing story quests, the Data Bank Level can only be increased by farming Tacet Discords throughout SOL3.

Claim all First Clear Boss Rewards

You don’t need to spend your precious Waveplates the first time you clear a boss fight! Even if you do not consume Waveplates to claim boss rewards, you will still get an Echo, Union XP, and material drops from your First Clear Bonus. This applies to all Overworld Bosses, Tactical Holograms, and Tacet Fields in SOL3.

Save the Echo upgrades for later

I know it’s so tempting to upgrade the first four-star Echo you obtain or reroll your Echoes in the Data Merge option, but wait until you reach Data Bank Level 15 to ensure you get the chance for higher-rarity drops before you do so! You wouldn’t want to waste your precious in-game materials with an Echo that may not be your best option at the moment.

Complete the Guidebook

The Guidebook is the best way to garner Union XP and materials for leveling up your characters and weapons without the challenges of clearing bosses and the long dialogues in Story Quests!

Guidebook

Most of the tasks in the Guidebook are pretty much given in your first hours of gameplay, so don’t worry about going out of your way to complete these tasks.

Practice your Combat Skills

Each Resonator in Wuthering Waves has a special skill and attack pattern that suits their kit. For example, Lingyang has a very specific ultimate that needs a string of charged attacks and basic attacks to maximize his damage.

Training

The great part is that Wuthering Waves devs have the complexity of their combat mechanics in mind, and they’ve got you covered! Each Resonator has a special Skill Training that rewards in-game materials after the First Clear.

Be conservative with your resources

While powering up your Resonators, Weapons, and Echoes may be your first nature once you obtain power-up materials, make sure to think twice before hitting that upgrade button! The upgrade materials in Wuthering Waves are scarce, and even Shell Credits are hard to accumulate.

Choose your best four to six Resonators whom you love playing, and then focus on building their kits instead of upgrading all your characters equally.
